    Yankton Police Department giving out free gun locks for Gun Storage Check Week

    YANKTON, S.D (KCAU) — In honor of Gun Storage Check Week and National Suicide Prevention Month, the Yankton Police Department will be offering free gun locks.

    According to a post on the Yankton Police Department Facebook page , officers will be offering free gun locks for pick up at 410 Walnut Street. The handout started on Sep. 1 and will continue until Sep. 7.

    The department encourages the community to check their firearm storage practices to help prevent unwanted access or access by people who may be in crisis.

    The Yankton Police Department also says that if you are in crisis or if you are concerned about someone you know, call 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. For veterans, call 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line.
