IOWA (KCAU) — The Iowa Solar Energy Trade Association (ISETA) is reminding consumers to research when selecting a solar installer for their home, business, or farm.

Genie Maybanks, Executive Director at ISETA says she has witnessed first-hand the misleading sales tactics from door-to-door salespeople that don’t always have the best interest of Iowans in mind.

“The people I was supposed to trust the most have lied to me”; Local organization helps human trafficking victims recover

She adds, “Solar energy is an important tool to help Iowans control their energy future, and we want to make sure Iowans have fair and accurate information to make educated decisions, our website provides an opportunity for Iowans to connected with trusted installers near them, and also learn valuable information to help them make informed decisions about their solar installation.”

ISETA has a consumer protection page on its website to help Iowans spot and avoid solar scams amid the increase in misleading advertisements online. The page helps Iowans do their research before signing a solar contract.

Earlier this year, ISETA also created a “Code of Ethics” for association members to protect and advance the rights of consumers and users of solar energy systems.

ISETA says important items to consider are contract terms, solar financing, who owns the panels, and policies impacting solar installations on the local, state and federal level.
