LINCOLN, Neb. (KCAU) — On Thursday, the Nebraska Secretary of State certified the Private Education Scholarship partial referendum for the Nov. 5 election.

Petitioners collected more than 68,000 valid signatures from voters statewide. The referendum would partially repeal legislation appropriating $10 million to the state treasurer’s office. The money is to be used to provide scholarships to students and their families who wish to attend private schools for K-12 education.

The coalition, Support our Schools Nebraska, says they’ve continued fighting the legal mechanism of the measure.

There are legal challenges to the petition, including one lawsuit.
