SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Long-time Sioux City musician Johnnie Bolin has died at 70.

Bolin first started his career playing drums with his brothers. One of them, Tommy Bolin, returned to Sioux City in 1990 and started a music festival, which celebrated its 30th year earlier this summer.

The director of the Sioux City Public Museum, Steve Hanson, said he remembered Johnnie Bolin saying this festival was going to be his last one.

“The Bolin musical legacy was established in Sioux City, and Johnnie was certainly well-known throughout the community and throughout the region,” Hanson said. “It’s a void, and we are just privileged to be a part of it with the exhibits and the festival.”

The cause of Johnnie Bolin’s death has not been determined yet.
