SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Now that the new Woodbury County LEC building is substantially complete , a problem regarding the building’s location is being discussed.

The Sioux City Transit System Advisory Board and the city council held a joint meeting Wednesday afternoon. During the discussion, the issue of the lack of bus routes to the new building was brought to attention.

Sioux City Mayor Pro-Tem Dan Moore said the city and county will be meeting to discuss solutions and collaborating with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office.

“The sheriff had indicated that there could be scheduled releases of people, but it is still the public use, the public business that will be done, where you come and go and take care of your business, that might be a little bit more difficult,” Moore said. “I would envision that we’ll have transportation at least two or three times in the morning, two or three times in the afternoon before they close, or at least have the last whatever vehicle is coming out. have them come at the closing time.”

Along with the issue of transportation to the LEC, the possibility of routes to the future water park was brought to attention. Assistant City Manager Mike Collett says as of now the city is looking at the most cost-effective solutions.

“Every situation is unique, so if it is near where we currently go, or if it’s a long deviation away from our current route, it makes a big difference,” Collett said. “If we can just add onto a route, it is just more cost effective than if we have to add a whole new route to service an area.”

Moore says they will be looking at Pottawattamie County’s transportation system as they had experienced a similar transportation need.
