DOON, Iowa (KCAU) — There is no impact to the Rock River after manure spilled into one of the river’s tributaries southwest of Doon.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said in a release that its Spencer field office was alerted overnight about a manure spill flowing into a Rock River tributary.

Officials investigated and found that manure had flowed across a field and entered into a tributary just west of the Fillmore Avenue and 270th Street intersection. No fish were found in the tributary as there is little flow in the stream. No impact was observed in the Rock River.

The manure came from Winding Meadows Dairy in Rock Valley with Jochum Agri-Service applying the manure in a field about two miles west of the dairy, the release stated.

The company told the DNR that a hose coupling broke with about 2,000 to 3,000 gallons of manure had spilled.

Earthen beams were placed to block the flow, but the manure had still spilled into a stream in a nearby field
