Norfolk meat processor among 9 in Nebraska accepting Hunters Helping the Hungry donations

LINCOLN, Neb (KCAU) — Nine meat processors, including one in Norfolk, are now accepting meat donations for the Helping the Hungry program.

According to a press release, hunters can begin donating deer to R&M Meats in Norfolk or eight other processor locations in Nebraska for the Hunters Helping the Hungry program.

Hunters pay no processing costs for deer that is accepted by the processors for this donation-driven program.

Hunters are encouraged to call and check availability before hunting or delivering a harvest for processing, this includes non-HHH processors.

The HHH program is funded solely by tax-deductible contributions. Once processed, the ground venison is distributed by charitable organizations to Nebraskans in need.

The eight other participating meat processors are listed below:

• Belschner Custom Meats in Amherst
• Elmwood Meat Plant in Elmwood
• Melcher’s Locker in Lindsay
• Kelley’s Custom Pack in North Platte
• Meast Garden Butchery and Fine Table Fare Inc. in Plattsmouth
• Den’s Country Meats in Table Rock
• Ulysses – The Butchery in Ulysses
• Wahoo Locker LLC in Wahoo

Processors are only accepting whole deer in good condition to ensure a good yield of pure ground version. Hunters are encouraged to talk with processors but can keep antlers, heads, and capes and donate the rest of the deer.
