SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KCAU) — South Dakota residents can now contact a Disaster Legal Services hotline for storm and flood assistance.

According to a release from FEMA , the hotline will provide legal assistance to South Dakotans who were affected by the storms and flooding that happened this summer.

The hotline will offer assistance with legal issues such as home repair contracts, property insurance claims, redoing wills and other important legal documents that may have been destroyed in the flood, price gouging, scams, or identity theft, landlord and tenant problems, threats of foreclosure, disability-related access to federal, state, and local disaster programs, and FEMA and U.S Small Business Administration financial benefits.

The hotline is not able to help in all cases such as ones where a settlement may include legal or an award, the release stated.

If you need legal assistance, you can contact the hotline at 605-444-3719 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you call outside of business hours, a representative will contact you during business hours if you leave a message.

The service is a partnership between the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, FEMA, and East River Legal Services.
