SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – More than 13,000 band students were marching to the beat of the music on Saturday at Morningside University. 17 regional marching bands gathered at Elwood-Olsen stadium for the Starfest marching band competition hosted by North High School.

High school band students from across Siouxland played for their chance to be named grand champion, but despite the competition all teams were practicing good sportsmanship.

“It’s absolutely amazing seeing the camaraderie from the band students from every school cheering each other on,” North High School band director Pat Toben said. “You’ll see them along the pit row cheering each other on. You’ll see the parent volunteers and the directors also high fiving each other. It’s just a competitive activity, yet at the same point, we’re all in it for the art and for our kids.”

This was the 26th year the North High band has hosted Starfest.
