    Iowa State Patrol arrests man going 144 mph

    POLK COUNTY, Iowa — A Nevada, Iowa man has been arrested after Iowa State Patrol scanned him going 144 mph Saturday morning.

    According to the Iowa State Patrol, they were working a speed project near Ankeny on I-35 between Oralabor and 1st Street, stopping a total of 30 cars for speeding.

    Thomas Peterson was clocked going 144 mph in a 65 mph zone, according to Iowa State Patrol.

    Court filings say Peterson was arrested and taken to Polk County Jail. He is charged with speeding over 55 zone (21 or over) and reckless driving.

    According to Iowa State Patrol, when asked why he was speeding he replied he “wanted to have a little fun.”

    The vehicle, a 2009 BMW, was towed.
