CANTON, S.D. (KELO) — Voters have less than a month to cast their ballots for the general election.

From the presidential race to local candidates to ballot questions, there are a lot of decisions to make.

Absentee voters are coming and going at the Lincoln County Courthouse.

Kent Olson is one of them

“We’re heading south for the winter before the election,” Olson said.

Other absentee voters simply want to get it done.

“It was a beautiful day, and we’ve been thinking of getting it over with and we did,” Voter Arly Fadness said.

“We’re busy,” Lincoln County Auditor Sheri Lund said.

Lund says about 3,200 absentee ballots have been requested as of Monday afternoon.

That includes both in-person voting and through the mail.

The county is expecting about 5,000 absentee voters.

“It is a longer ballot. I’m sure we’ve heard that many times, so it’s going to take a little longer to vote it,” Lund said.

In addition to candidates, the general election ballot includes seven statewide ballot questions.

“I like to vote informed and I like to know what I’m doing, and what’s best for the country,” Fadness said.

When you’re casting your absentee ballot now or waiting for election day, Lund says every vote counts.

“If you want to have your voice heard, you need to get out and vote,” Lund said.

“It just feels good to have a chance to do that in our society,” Olson said.
