SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office was back before county supervisors Tuesday afternoon.

Last week on a 4-1 vote , supervisors approved the MOU, which provides several incentives for the office aimed at recruiting and retaining assistant county attorneys. At Tuesday’s meeting, the MOU came back to the board for approval of clerical amendments.

The matter again brought debate between supervisor Jeremy Taylor and chairman Matthew Ung, who declined to sign the amendment paperwork after a 5-0 vote to approve changes. Aside from the debate, supervisor Mark Nelson is hopeful the MOU will help fix the assistant attorney issue.

“Out the gate, nothing is ever going to be perfect the first time,” Nelson said. “The hard job for us is I think some of these benefits were great, they’re not going to cost us a whole heck of a lot. Which is a good thing for a taxpayer. I think we finally got it done and hopefully got to a place where it helps the attorney’s office and we start to see some applications.”

Supervisor Dan Bittinger was identified as the signer on the document.
