SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — FEMA has already provided aid to 5,000 households in northwest Iowa affected by flooding.

In total, FEMA has approved more than $55 million of individual assistance to survivors of the June floods. According to FEMA representative John Mills, Iowans are already putting those funds toward home repairs and rent at temporary living quarters. However, Mills said Iowans should keep FEMA updated on their needs.

“We want to continue to hear from people about what there needs are, so people can still visit disaster recovery centers,” Mills said. “They can call us directly and update us about what their family’s situation is now. And we may be able to provide additional assistance to them.”

FEMA will work with Iowans as well as state and local governments as the recovery process continues.
