After more than 100 years, one of the country's most iconic brands is changing its name.

The Campbell Soup Company plans to drop soup from its name, changing it to simply The Campbell's Company.

The company explained the change "as part of its evolution and transformed portfolio."

"This subtle yet important change retains the company's iconic name recognition, reputation and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the full breadth of the company's portfolio," Campbell CEO Mark Clouse said in a statement .

While soup may be its bread and butter, Campbell's has a variety of brands that span across both snacks and meals and beverages. It's portfolio includes Cape Cod, Goldfish, Kettle Brand, Lance, Late July, Milano, Michael Angelo's, noosa, Pace, Pacific Foods, Pepperidge Farm, Prego, Rao's, Snyder's of Hanover, Swanson and V8.

"For the last five years, we have been on a transformative journey to redefine our company," said Clouse. "We are ready to turn the page and enter a new chapter where we build on Campbell's transformed portfolio, strong team, and aligned and engaged culture with the goal to set the standard for performance in the food industry."

It might also be surprising to know that this isn't the company's first name change. It started out in 1869 as Anderson & Campbell before adopting "soup" as its middle name to become the Campbell Soup Company in 1922.

The name change isn't official just yet. Shareholders will vote on the move during the company's annual meeting in November.
