Three of the Most Popular Paris Olympians are Texans

DALLAS (KDAF) — The Paris Olympics begin on July 26, and a new study has revealed the most popular Olympians via Google search — and three of the top four are native Texans.

Houston native Brittney Griner, basketball star and two-time Olympic gold medalist, was the number one most searched for Olympian in 16 states and had a 525% surge in searches.

Ranking second is swimmer Katie Ledecky, the favorite among 11 states, who boasts a haul of 7 Olympic gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 21 world championship gold medals – a historic first among female swimmers.

Dallas native track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson was the third most searched for in 8 states, and recently clocked the fastest women’s 100-meter time in the world this year at 10.71 seconds.

Coming in fourth is Spring native Simone Biles. With a total of 37 Olympic and World Championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast in history.

The Lone Star State produces some of the world’s most elite athletes — and we can’t wait to cheer them on as they go for gold.
