DALLAS (KDAF) — Dallas Independent School District is making sure no student goes hungry by continuing its free meals program for the 2024-2025 school year. Thanks to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), every student in the district will receive free meals, regardless of household income.

The CEP simplifies access to nutritious meals by eliminating the need for families to submit income applications. Instead, schools receive funding based on data from other sources, ensuring all students can benefit from the program without the hassle of paperwork.

This initiative is crucial for student success, as research shows that better nutrition leads to improved academic performance, attentiveness in class, and overall well-being. With free meals available daily, families can rest easy knowing their children are guaranteed at least two nutritious meals each school day.

Beyond helping students, the CEP is also a win for Dallas ISD. It reduces administrative costs, eliminates school meal debt, and allows for innovative meal service models like in-classroom dining. This program not only supports students’ health but also promotes equity by removing financial barriers and the stigma associated with traditional free meal programs.
