DALLAS (KDAF) — August 15 is National Relaxation Day, but with 74% of Americans saying they don’t have enough time to relax, it seems like a tall order. Stress and burnout are rampant, driving many to squeeze every drop of relaxation out of their leisure time. But here’s the twist: it’s Millennials and Gen Z who are leading the charge, adopting hobbies like gardening and bird watching—activities once seen as pastimes once reserved for older generations—to escape the digital frenzy of modern life.

A recent study sheds light on how different generations and regions across the U.S. unwind . In Texas, for example, the most popular way to relax is traveling. Baby Boomers, who experience the least daily stress, spend the most time relaxing each week. On the other hand, Millennials and Gen Z grapple with the highest stress levels and have the least time to unwind.

Work, finances, and family are the top three causes of stress across all generations. As for relaxation methods, gardening is the most popular, followed by a four-way tie of reading, hiking, crafting, and cooking.

So, this National Relaxation Day, maybe it’s time to dig out the gardening gloves, crack open that book, or plan a trip—whatever helps you unwind, make sure you take the time to do it!
