DALLAS (KDAF) — The Lone Star State is the perfect place for those looking to kick back in their golden years, according to a new study from USA TODAY Homefront.

The survey analyzed cities nationwide across 13 key livability factors for seniors, ranging from quality of life and financial security to amenities for residents — and half of America’s top 10 retirement destinations are in Texas:

    1. Tyler, TX
    2. Peoria, IL
    3. Meridian, ID
    4. Knoxville, TN
    5. Rochester, MN
    6. Sugar Land, TX
    7. Boise, ID
    8. Wichita Falls, TX
    9. Abilene, TX
    10. McAllen, TX

Tyler has a cost of living that’s 7.8% lower than the national average, which means your retirement savings can stretch further. A typical home value of $258,000, 29% less than the US average, enables retirees to comfortably downsize. The Lone Star State also boasts around 10 senior-relevant healthcare providers per 1,000 residents and a hospital readmission rate of only 16.5%, reflecting top-tier patient care. Texas’ lack of state income tax is another major perk for those living on fixed retirement income.
