DALLAS (KDAF) — As Halloween approaches, Americans are diving headfirst into the sweet season, with 94% sharing chocolate and candy with friends and family, according to a National Confectioners Association survey. The trend toward celebrating early—like “Summerween” and “Aug-tober”—is keeping candy lovers indulging before Oct. 31.

Why does this matter? Halloween is a major moment for the $48 billion confectionery industry, with 2023’s spooky sales hitting $6.4 billion and expected to rise this year. The survey also revealed that nearly all Americans welcoming trick-or-treaters plan to hand out candy, with two-thirds giving out multiple pieces.

And let’s not forget the sneaky parents—over half admit to snatching from their kids’ candy stash. When it comes to favorites, chocolate, gummies, and candy corn take the spotlight. Even the shape matters, with pumpkins, ghosts, and bats leading the candy design pack.
