DALLAS (KDAF) — Wellness and self-care are no longer just trendy — they’re a priority for many Americans. But which destinations in the US are leading the way for those seeking the ultimate self-care experience?
A new study shines the spotlight on states leading the way in health and well-being practices, based on key factors like wellness retreats, fitness facilities, and self-care search trends. Wellness experts at Platinum Spas conducted research into the self-care capitals of the US.
Texas ranked as the 4th best wellness destinationm with a score of 48.11. Topping the ultimate wellness destinations list are California, Florida, and New York, setting the standard for well-being practices nationwide.

California ranks as the top state for wellness with the highest score of 84 out of 100. The state ranks first in self-care search volume, totaling 182,100 searches, and boasts the highest number of health clubs (5,123), hiking trails (18,467 miles), and spas (4,779).
With a total score of 58.2 out of 100, Florida comes in second, offering its residents a robust wellness infrastructure. The state ranks 4th in self-care search volume (93,900 searches) and is home to a high number of health clubs (2,809), spas (4,155), and wellness retreats (81). However, its overall ranking was impacted by moderate noise pollution (3.23%).
New York takes third place with a score of 50.6 out of 100, driven by its abundance of parks and green spaces (164 parks, the highest of any state) and the second-highest number of psychologists (7,290). Despite its impressive wellness landscape, New York’s score was hindered by high noise pollution (4.78%) and fewer hiking trails compared to other top states.
