The chase ended after the Jeep, operated by 22-year-old Tyler Stewart, crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Banksville and McMonagle Avenue. The driver of the vehicle Stewart crashed into suffered a broken pelvis.

Stewart then got out of the car and fled on foot to the Banksville Plaza parking lot.

He then tried to carjack an elderly man in the plaza, but was chased off by two witnesses who saw the attempted carjacking. He crossed the road and was tackles by witnesses.

Stewart was then arrested by a Sheriff’s deputy and Pittsburgh Police Officers.

A search of Stewart’s Jeep found a handgun with a loaded clip, and assault style weapon and other items.

“First off, I am thankful that the person injured as the result of this reckless and criminal conduct did not sustain life threatening injuries, and we hope for a quick recovery,” said Sheriff Kraus. “While we can’t say with any certainty what this individual’s intentions were last night, it’s clear from the way he was outfitted and from the items recovered from the car, that he is an extremely dangerous person who posed a significant threat to the safety of our community.”
