    Restaurant ordered close, Consumer Alert issued for Pittsburgh grocery store

    The Allegheny County Health Department has closed Pittsburgh restaurant and issued a Consumer Alert for a grocer.

    An inspection of Negril Curbside, a Jamaican/American food stop in Hazelwood revealed 18 violations.

    Some of the “high risk” violations include meat pies and friend chicken being held at unsafe temperatures.

    The owner told inspectors the food was made the morning of the inspection, August 28. That food was thrown away.

    Cooked rice was in a refrigerator outside a trailer temped at 50 degrees. Food must be held at 41 or lower. That food was also thrown away.

    Other violations include raw chicken in grocery bags leaking onto bins of cooked beef and vegetables and the eatery was using a “non-permitted building” next to the mobile trailer to store refrigerated food.

    17 total violations were recorded during an inspection of Market on Broadway IGA/ Las Palmas on Broadway Avenue in Beechview.

    Inspectors found 36 cans with large dents on the sales floor, along with moldy strawberries in a produce cooler. Those items were thrown away.

    Hot food like wins were in a hot holding case measuring between 121 and 125 degrees.
    Foods must be at 135 or above.

    Several cold holding items in different parts of the store were temped above 41 degrees, including items like shredded cheese, cooked chicken, pico de gallo and more tempted between 58 and 71 degrees.

    Ice cream in a freezer was found melted and inspectors noticed the product had gone through multiple thaw/freeze cycles.

    Another “high risk” violation includes “too many to count large black flies found throughout the sales floor and rear storage area”, along with rodent droppings found in other areas of the store.

    The store also was operating with an expired permit.
