    Police accidentally tase child while attempting to tase carjacking suspect

    A mother is facing multiple charges after holding a knife towards two children, her 10-year old daughter and 4-year old nephew.

    According to a criminal complaint, police were searching for Gwendolyn Gilmore, a 48-year old, in connection to an alleged carjacking.

    Police told her to drop the knife outside a home in the city's Knoxville neighborhood on Moore Avenue. She then held the knife up to her daughter's neck. The officer fired a taser shot at the woman and missed her as she moved out of the way. The taser hit the son in the leg and struck her daughter in the head. After additional Taser shots by multiple officers struck Gilmore, she fell and let go of the children.

    Police said her daughter began having a seizure and had to be taken to Children’s Hospital.

    After two more attempts at tasing the mother, Gilmore released her children and was taken into custody. She was also taken to the hospital to be medically cleared and after she was clearered. she was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

    She is facing several charges, including endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, resisting arrest and robbery of a motor vehicle.

    Her daughter was released from Children's Hospital and is with relatives. Her son was uninjured from the taser and is also with relatives.
