Police in McKees Rocks are warning residence of another rash of vehicle break-ins.

The targeted cars, are once again, Kia and Hyundai models.

Police ask residence to not leave anything valuable in their cars, especially in plain sight.

“Also for vehicles that have not had updated software and security programming installed, again, a steering wheel locking mechanism will instantly deter these young people,” Police said.

McKees Rocks Police also responded to a commenter on Facebook complaining about an incident where his wife’s window was smashed. He claimed police are not “doing anything about it.”

McKees Rocks Police responded to the comment, saying the following:

Juveniles (who make up nearly 100% of the actors in these incidents) are shooting people, robbing people, being caught with fully automatic pistols and not being placed into jail or being incarcerated. Breaking into cars isnt on a top ten list of reasons to punish a juvenile in today’s “judicial system” Catching them and “pressing charges” is not the issue. We do that, and it’s proven. Aside from act 33 cases where juveniles are charged as adults we cannot force any establishment to house or incarcerate a juvenile. Those decisions are made by probation officers, Lawyers, judges . . We do our jobs, thank you.

Hyundai and Kia vehicles are targeted because they are easier to steal due to a technology issue.

The “Kia Challenge” is a viral TikTok trend that features “Kia Boys” stealing makes of the vehicle.
