KDKA Radio Editorial: Too Many Guns At TSA Checkpoints

The 33rd gun of 2024 was stopped at Pittsburgh International on Wednesday.

This time, a woman tried to get a loaded 9mm handgun through the TSA checkpoint.

The airport is on pace to set a new record this year and that's good evidence efforts to reduce the number of weapons seized at the airport are not working.

It’s a problem because thousands of passengers trying to catch their flights must wait while the checkpoint is shut down and police called to the airport can remove the gun from the X-Ray machine.

Some people miss flights. It is unacceptable that the problem is increasing despite frequent media reports telling gun owners they can't bring their weapon inside an airliner cabin.

How can someone with a handgun in a carry on not see the huge checkpoint signs that say no weapons?

The threat of a big fine is clearly not enough.
    Something has to change.

    Are lawmakers listening?

These people need to start getting jail time since obviously a fine doesn't teach them a lesson.
