Just days after parts of Southwestern Pennsylvania got to experience the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, there is another opportunity Thursday going into Friday morning.

The National Weather Service out of Pittsburgh says the weather will be perfect, albeit cold.

Clear skies will make for “great viewing conditions for the Aurora,” said the NWS.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says a large coronal mass injection from the sun, that erupted on October 8, has caused a severe geomagnetic storm watch for October 10 and 11.

The CMI will cause the Northern Lights to be visible farther south than it normally is.

The best chance to see the Northern Lights is typically between 10 p.m. and 2 p.m.
overnight but KDKA-TV’s Ray Petelin says you could see it any time its dark.

For the best chance to see the Northern Lights, make sure you are looking north, let your eyes adjust, look toward the horizon and make sure there is as little as light pollution around as possible.

If you do head outside, make sure you bundle up. A frost advisory is in effect for the entire area overnight.
