Tempers flare in courtroom at sentencing for gunman in fatal Davenport shooting
Tempers flared Wednesday when an 18-year-old Peoria man was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for the fatal 2023 Davenport shooting of a Moline man. Our Quad Cities News crew was in the courtroom while Alex Markovich, who at first faced charges of first-degree murder and intimidation with a dangerous weapon – injure/provoke fear pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and intimidation with a dangerous weapon – injure/provoke fear.
Burlington couple charged with insurance fraud and arson charges, police say
BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) - A married couple was arrested after their house burned down. They’re now facing arson and insurance fraud charges. Heather (Mougin) Dawson is charged with insurance fraud and Derek Dawson is charged with second-degree arson and insurance fraud, according to a media release from the Burlington Police Department. Illinois Man Arrested for Allegedly Abusing North Carolina Teen
Green Oaks, IL – A 15-year-old girl from North Carolina was rescued from a Green Oaks residence, where she was allegedly held and abused. According to the United States Marshals Service, the missing girl was found on Prairie Ridge Road after an investigation with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. On July 24, detectives obtained a search warrant and apprehended Andrew W. Szech, 43, who was seen leaving the home with the victim.
