The Rudder girls volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s team academic award for the 16th straight year. The Lady Rangers had a 3.64 grade-point average. The AVCA’s minimum is 3.3. Rudder, under veteran coach Jacky Pence, has earned the award every year since the school opened. Rudder was among only 48 schools in the state out of 3,250 to earn the award this year.

Ahead of the 2005 season Coach Gary Patterson moved Phillips to the linebacker position where he’d quickly earn the starting role starting all but one game over the next four seasons.
