The Chelan County Sheriff's Office has issued a Level 1 Evacuation Advisory for the Stehekin area due to the ongoing Pioneer Fire, which is burning in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest near Lake Chelan. The advisory affects the region up Lake from Hazard Creek to the High Bridge Ranger Station. Spanning 18,731 acres and located 31 miles northwest of Chelan, the fire is currently 14% contained.

DOUGLAS COUNTY — A traffic collision on Highway 97 on Saturday left one dead and two injured. The Washington State Patrol says that at roughly 4:39 p.m., a southbound 2006 Toyota Tacoma towing a boat crossed the center line of the highway and struck a 2014 Subaru Forester. The truck became fully engulfed with flames upon impact before both vehicles came to a rest partially blocking the northbound lane. Both vehicles were totaled.

City requests $5M to pave way for fertilizer plant
A funding request that would help pave the way for a $1 billion zero-carbon nitrate fertilizer plant in Richland has moved to a U.S. Senate subcommittee for consideration. The city of Richland has asked for $5 million for engineering work needed to eventually make the connection between the Northwest Advanced Clean Energy Park and the Bonneville Power Administration grid, and Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Washington, recently advanced the request to the Energy and Water Development appropriations subcommittee, said Joe Schiessl, Richland’s deputy city manager.

Kennewick convention center set to expand
The Three Rivers Convention Center is about to undergo a long-awaited expansion. Construction of a new exhibit hall and additional lobby and meeting room space is expected to start late this year or early next year. The project will add 100,000 to 120,000 square feet to the Kennewick facility, which currently is about 82,000 square feet.
