    USF softball tallies split with SMSU

    MARSHALL, MN (USF) — USF Softball splits with SMSU to move to 17-26 on the season and 8-14 in NSIC play.

    GAME 1 – L, 6-4

    USF got the bats going in the 3rd when Megan Lawson singled to score Jayden Haley to tie the game at one.

    Amber McKinney sent a bases clearing double to left center to score Taryn Wagner and Lawson before being scored on a double by Damaris Cuevas to go up 4-1.

    SMSU would come back to rally in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game at four before tacking on two runs in the bottom of the 6th for a final score of 6-4.

    Wagner, Cuevas and Haley each recorded two hits on the day for the Coo while McKinney led the team with two RBI in game one.

    Maddi Duncan threw a complete 6.0 inning game for USF while facing 32 batters and forcing six flyouts and 10 groundouts.

    GAME 2 – W, 1-0

    After four scoreless innings, the Cougars brought in the lone run of the game when McKinney scored on a 2-out single by Emma Barta .

    Barta led the Coo in game two going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk. Lawson, Wagner and Kenzie Raymond also recorded hits for USF.

    Campbell Petrick earned herself her first shutout victory, throwing a complete 7.0 inning game while giving up just five hits and forcing eight flyouts and nine groundouts.

    OVERALL

    • Barta led the Coo at the plate on the day going 3-for-5 with two walks and an RBI followed by Wagner going 3-for-6
    • McKinney led in scoring with two RBI on the day and a double
    • Petrick picked up the win with a 0.00 ERA and three strikeouts on the day

    UP NEXT

    Sioux Falls will hit the road again on Friday for their final road series of the season as they take on Wayne State in Wayne, Nebraska. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm with game two to follow at 4pm.
