BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — Some changes have been made to the South Dakota State women’s basketball coaching staff.

The university announced on Friday that associate head coach Carissa Thielbar is stepping away from coaching, saying she wants to spend more time with her family. Macy Miller has been hired as an assistant coach.

Missouri State moving to FBS, leaving MVFC

Thielbar spent 10 seasons on the women’s basketball staff in a number of roles.

Miller, a 2019 graduate, spent the 2021-21 season as a graduate assistant at SDSU before taking an assistant coaching job at NAIA Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa.

Miller played basketball professionally for one season in Spain for Baxi Ferrol in 2019-20. Prior to her time playing overseas, Miller was the second Jackrabbit women’s basketball player to be selected in the WNBA Draft. She was a third-round pick by the Seattle Storm in 2019. A Mitchell native, Miller was honored as the Summit League Player of the Year during both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Her 2,355 career points are both SDSU and Summit League records.
