BROOKINGS, S.D. (SDSU) — For the second day in a row, North Dakota State’s Cadyn Schwabe drove in the go-ahead run as North Dakota State prevailed over South Dakota State, 7-6, in 11 innings Saturday afternoon in Summit League baseball action at Erv Huether Field.

The Bison improved to 18-25-1 overall and 13-9-1 in league play. SDSU, which saw its losing streak in Summit League games reach seven games, dropped to 9-15 in league play and 18-27 overall.

Schwabe, who hit a go-ahead three-run home run in Friday’s series opener, lined a single up the middle in the top of the 11 th inning to score Will Busch. Busch singled with one out and moved to second when Jake Schaffner was hit by a pitch.

SDSU appeared on the verge of tying  — or winning — the game in the bottom of the 11th when Luke Luskey walked with one out and Jordan Sagedahl was hit by a pitch. NDSU reliever Hunter Rosenbaum struck out Thatcher Kozal for the second out of the inning, but Adam Benes dumped a single into right field. Bison right fielder Sam Canton fielded the ball on one hop and threw a one-hop strike to the plate in time to throw out pinch runner Jess Bellows for the final out of the game.

The Jackrabbits had battled back from a three-run deficit to tie the game at 6-all, with all the runs scoring on solo home runs. Luskey hit his second homer of the game in the fifth inning, while Dawson Parry followed with his 14 th home run of the season in the seventh and Cael Frost delivered the game-tying blast on the second pitch of the bottom of the ninth off Bison closer Joey Danielson.

Frost’s home run, which was a line shot over the fence in left-center field, was his 20 th of the year, setting a new Jackrabbit single-season record. The previous mark of 19 was established by Jesse Sawyer in 2009 and matched a year later.

Frost nearly provided more heroics in the bottom of the 10 th as he came to the plate with two men on and two outs; however, his opposite-field line drive was snared by a leaping left fielder Colten Becker to end the inning.

A bases-loaded walk to the Jackrabbits’ Cade Stuff in the bottom of the second inning opened the scoring, but NDSU quickly grabbed a 3-1 lead a half-inning later on a three-run home run by Sam Canton, who also plated a run with a groundout in the fifth.

Luskey’s first home run of the day, a two-run shot to left-center field, in the third inning momentarily tied the game at 3-all. A two-run home run by NDSU’s Davis Hamilton pushed the Bison lead to 6-3, capping a three-run fifth.

NDSU starter Logan Knight worked six innings, allowing four runs while striking out eight and walking four. Seth Thompson earned the win in relief while Rosenbaum picked up the save.

Arlen Peters pitched the first four innings for the jackrabbits, striking out three and walking three while surrendering four runs. Jake Goble pitched four solid innings out of the bullpen with three strikeouts to start a string of 12 consecutive Bison batters retired by SDSU relievers in the late innings. Dylan Driessen took the loss.

SDSU held a 12-8 advantage in hits as Luskey and Benes each tallied three. Schwabe, Canton and Busch each collected two hits for the Bison.
