SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Several coaches from across the state have cast their final ballots for the last high school baseball coaches poll of the 2024 season.

The playoffs begin this week for class ‘A’, while the class ‘B’ postseason is set to commence early next week. Due to the timing of the playoffs, this is final poll of the season.

    CLASS ‘A’

The class ‘A’ playoffs will begin with one series on Wednesday and the rest beginning on Friday. Each matchup will be best of three game series.

Class ‘A’ baseball playoff pairings announced

Harrisburg earned the top-seed, followed by Lincoln, Brandon Valley, O’Gorman and Rapid City Stevens.

Ironically, that is exactly how this week’s poll lines up.

The Tigers didn’t play any games in the last week, while Lincoln made a statement with a 4-0 week. The Patriots defeated Brandon Valley twice and then Roosevelt and Jefferson.

O’Gorman also had the hot hand earning four win week. Those victories included sweeps of Brookings and Pierre.

    NOTABLE GAMES THIS WEEK:

    • Tea Area vs. Sturgis playoffs – May 15 & 16
    • All other playoff series – May 17 & 18

    CLASS ‘B’

Dell Rapids continued their run of success this season with a four win week. The Quarriers knocked off Garretson, Sioux Falls Christian, Hanson and West Central. In that stretch, they ten-run ruled each team, while outscoring their opponents 49-7. They also tallied a pair of non-class ‘B’ wins over Brandon Valley Monday.

Madison has risen from receiving votes to the second ranked team in a matter of two weeks. Much of that success can be credited to last Wednesday’s big win over previously second-ranked Howard. The Bulldogs rolled to a 2-0 win over the Tigers, thanks to JD Prorok’s no-hitter.

Dakota Valley went 4-0 this week and they didn’t move at all. Neither did Bon Homme who stayed in fourth.

Howard fell to a tie for fifth, following a 1-1 week.

The newest members to the rankings is Chamberlain, who is tied for fifth. They’re now 11-0 on the season, just one of three unbeatens in class ‘B’.

    NOTABLE GAMES THIS WEEK:

    • Vermillion vs. #4 Bon Homme – May 15
    • #5 Chamberlain vs. Winner/Colome – May 15
    • Canton vs. #4 Bon Homme – May 15
    • #3 Dakota Valley vs. Wagner – May 17
    • Class ‘B’ Playoffs – May 20-22
