BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — Renner won the Class A championship Saturday with an 8-0 win over Brookings. Behind a pair of three-run rallies, the Royals walked away with the program’s third state championship.

Catcher Sullivan Schlimgen was named tournament MVP, going 5-for-12 with 7 walks for a 667 on base percentage. He also scored four runs.

“They did so good,” Renner pitcher Luke Wheeler said. “I’m so proud of every single one of them, especially Sully. He’s been the best player on this team every day. And he’s just the guy. I mean, he’s been my catcher for 10 years, and I just love the man.”

Renner outscored its opponents by 20 runs in the four games of the tournament. They’ll head to the Central Plains Regional this week.
