SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The high school football season is right around the corner as teams are preparing to hit the practice field.

Practice begins this week for 9-man and 11B teams, while the rest of the state begins practice next week. KELOLAND Media Group hosted its annual media day at Howard Wood Field, where ten teams came to talk about the upcoming season.

The first games are just two or three weeks away, creating plenty of energy for the players and coaches.

“It’ll be good you know, getting out there and finally putting the pads on soon. Getting back to what we do best and that’s playing football,” Tea senior Riley Svanda said.

“You feel like the day will never come and it’s long away, but it’s very close and I’m very excited for that. I’m thinking about it all the time. When I’m driving and and I’m bored, I’m thinking about Dakota Bowl and I’m just ready for the season to happen,” O’Gorman senior Alex Carlson said.

You can hear more from several teams ahead of the season in our high school football preview show on August 14.
