MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO) – Dimock-Emery and Castlewood are headed to the second round of the Class ‘B’ State Amateur Baseball Tournament.

Dimock-Emery opened Thursday’s first round action with a 7-2 win over Lake Norden.

Phil Johnson threw eight innings allowing just two runs, while striking out seven. He earned the win for the Raptors.

Jason Schmidt delivered three hits and three RBI’s in the win.

The second game Thursday saw one of last year’s semifinal teams fall as Castlewood edged Tabor 7-5.

Three pitchers combined to throw the nine innings for Castlewood.

Gus Stieger went 4-5 with four singles in the win, but the big bat was Kellan Benck. He earned the win on the mound and also went 2-5 at the plate with a double, a grand slam and seven runs batted in.

Castlewood and Dimock-Emery will now cross paths in the second round. That game is set for Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
