SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Sioux Falls little league team is headed back to the Little League World Series, following a 6-1 win over Missouri in Friday’s Midwest Regional Championship.

The trip to Williamsport will be Sioux Falls’ first since 2021, when the team finished fourth.

South Dakota got the scoring started early in Friday’s game. They scored three runs in the second inning, fueled by a triple from August Vortherms.

Sioux Falls added a run in the fourth. Then in the sixth, Devin Cargin knocked in two insurance runs with a single.

The home half of the sixth inning made the game very interesting.

A double, walk and two singles brought in a run and loaded the bases for Missouri, as the top of the order came to the plate.

Cargin would come in relief and get an infield fly and a groundout to end the threat and give Sioux Falls the win.

Griffin Sommer earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing just one run, while striking out six.

The Little League World Series begins Wednesday, August 14 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Sioux Falls will play Wednesday at 6 p.m.
