SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — 9-man and 11B teams were able to start practicing last week, but with the new week comes the ability for every high school football team to hit the field.

The state’s three largest classes began practice on Monday. They were delayed by a few days as the smaller classes start their season earlier.

The 9-man and 11B football seasons get underway on Friday, August 23, while the 11AAA, 11AA and 11A have to wait a week until August 30.

Either way, the season is right around the corner, as players and coaches are eager for kick-off.

“It’s really exciting, especially to get some young guys out here. We still have positions that aren’t filled yet. So it’s going to exciting to see who goes for the positions,” Yankton senior wide receiver/safety Carson Ness said.

“Just keep getting better at day by day. I mean, that’s always the thing, especially when you have a lot of new starters. Tell them to keep getting better every day and be ready for anything,” Avon head coach Justin Lukkes said.

The first KELOLAND SportsZone of the season is scheduled for Friday, August 23 at 10:15 p.m.
