MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO) — The Renner Monarchs claimed the program’s 23rd Class ‘A’ amateur baseball state championship with an 11-7 win over the Sioux Falls Brewers at Cadwell Park Sunday.

The Brewers jumped on top early and led 4-0 after two innings. After the Monarchs cut the deficit in half in the third, Jaxon Rosencranz gave them their first lead with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth. Renner added four more in the fifth to open up a 10-4 advantage.

“In the beginning of this game, we didn’t know what was going on,” tournament MVP David Borchardt said. “We had our best pitcher on the mound, and we trust him wholeheartedly, but just didn’t go his way today. Then our guys put it together. Again, another awesome team win.”

Renner fell short in last year’s title game. This championship is the team’s first since 2021. The Monarchs won six straight from 2013 to 2018.
