BRANDON, S.D. (KELO) — It wasn’t part of the original schedule, but Huset’s Speedway in Brandon has saved its best for last.

“Hopefully, we don’t have to go through what we went through the first time,” Huset’s Speedway General Manager Doug Johnson said.

Two months removed from the heavy rain and flooding that left Huset’s Speedway underwater, postponing the richest event in dirt-track racing, Huset’s is set to give it another go with the High Bank Nationals.

“It’s part of life and Mother Nature, not much we can do about it and we’re just trying to make the best of it and move forward and hopefully have a big event for the fans to end their season on,” Johnson said.

General Manager Doug Johnson says the three-day event is expected to attract plenty of star power, especially with Sunday’s top prize of $100,000.

“Now that Knoxville Raceway’s done, I think we’ll see some of those guys like Garet Williamson and Kerry Madsen, guys like that. Emerson Axsom, who just won there the other night, so we’re going to have a really star-studded field,” Johnson said.

The World of Outlaws will take center stage, but a local track championship with the Late Model Street Stocks will be up for grabs Friday.

“$5,000 to win for those guys on Friday night, and that will be their season championship, we’ll crown a champion there that night as well in that class. That’s big money for those guys,” Johnson said.

It’s three nights of racing fans have been waiting nine weeks to see.

“You can come out here and camp and spend the entire weekend out here,” Johnson said. “We’re going to have our Sage Fruit stage show all three nights before the races and just give fans a chance to hang out here on the property and enjoy a long nice weekend,” Johnson added.

Ending the racing season on a high note.

Huset’s will host three consecutive nights of racing beginning this Friday. Hot laps start at 6:30 p.m., followed by racing at 7:30.
