VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — USD started the season on the right note rolling past Division II in-state opponent Northern State, 45-3.

The Wolves started the game strong. Hank Kraft had a big run to get them out of the shadow of their own endzone.

Northern State would keep that drive alive, leading to a 24 yard field goal and 3-0 lead.

However, that lead last just 11 seconds. Keyondray Jones-Logan took the ensuing kick-off 97 yards for a touchdown and USD led 7-3.

The Yotes added a field goal in the first and kept the pressure on. Charles Pierre Jr. scored a five yard touchdown and build a 17-3 lead.

Carter Bell would return a punt for a score, followed by another Pierre Jr. touchdown to make it 31-3 at halftime.

USD added 14 more to cruise to the 45-3 win.

Pierre Jr. rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns, leading a USD offense that rushed for 266 total yards.

Northern State rushed for 147 yards, led by Hank Kraft’s 68 yards.
