ST. PETERSBURG, FL (KELO) — Yandy Diaz capped an eight run fourth-inning with a homerun, helping the Rays tally a 9-4 win over the Twins on Wednesday.

Both teams threw openers and they wouldn’t allow a run, as the game stayed scoreless into the fourth.

Louie Varland threw two scoreless innings, before allowing eight runs in the fourth and earning just one out.

Tampa Bay kept the Twins off the scoreboard until the seventh.

Kyle Farmer hit a solo homerun and Carlos Santana hit a two-run homerun. Matt Wallner added an RBI single to score four runs, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Minnesota allowed a run in the eighth on their way to a 9-4 loss.

    THE RECORD

The Twins are now 75-64 and tied for second in both the AL Central and AL Wild Card race with the Royals.

    UP NEXT

Minnesota will close the four game series with Tampa Bay on Thursday with a 12:10 p.m. first pitch. Probable starters are Pablo Lopez for the Twins and Taj Bradley for the Rays.
