SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Augustana football team opened the 2024 season with a bye, meaning they kick-off the new year on Thursday.

The Vikings lost 27 players last season, meaning a lot of new faces will need to step up this season.

Augie does return a core group of guys on defense, which they expect to continue the success that they’ve had on that side of the ball.

As the calendar has turned to September, the weeks get busy for Augustana starting with U-Mary on Thursday and then a tough test in Brookings.

“We know our schedule. We know September 5 will be up in Bismarck for a night game. We know we’re going to get back about four in the morning. We know they have the next day off and then we’re going to commit on Saturday. Then they know that South Dakota State is week two,” Augustana head coach Jerry Olszewski said.

Augustana will play at U-Mary on Thursday. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
