    Groton Area defeats West Central in ranked battle

    HARTFORD, S.D. (KELO) — No. 3 Groton Area defeated No. 1 West Central 2-1 in a battle of top-ranked teams in girls soccer Saturday afternoon.

    The Tigers struck first with a McKenna Tietz goal in the 23rd minute and led 1-0 at halftime.

    The Trojans found the equalizer in the second half when Baylee Poss rifled a shot home.

    The 1-1 deadlock held until the 69th minute when Kennedy Hansen converted on a penalty kick for the visiting Tigers.
