    Cougar football slides past Marauders 35-33

    SIOUX FALL, S.D. (USF) — Cougar Football moves to 3-0 on the season after skimming past the Marauders, 35-33, in their 2024 home opener at Bob Young Field.

    SCORING RECAP:

    Following an opening drive score by Mary, The Coo responded with a 22-yard rushing touchdown by Camden Dean to tie it up 7-7.

    Dean connected with Travis Yohnke in the second for a 4-yard touchdown immediately following a previous overturned score to take their first lead of the game, 14-10.

    Dean found freshman Hank Brown Jr. for a 36-yard touchdown, his first of the day, with 10:10 left in the first half.

    Sioux Fall forced Mary to punt it away before Dean recorded his third passing touchdown of the quarter when finding Carter Slykhuis for a 43-yard score to put USF up 28-17.

    With no scoring in the third quarter by either team, The Coo opened the fourth quarter with a 31-yard toe touch score by Brown Jr. to put USF up 35-20.

    KEY COO

    Camden Dean and Carter Slykhuis were the top offensive performers for The Coo. Dean played a part in all five USF touchdowns with four in the air and one on the ground. He threw for 297-yards while completing 18-of-25 passes and rushed for 72-yards on seven carries. Slykhuis balled out for Sioux Falls with 178 receiving yards and a score in just eight receptions averaging 22.25-yards a catch.

    Hank Brown Jr. is making his name known for The Coo as he recorded two touchdowns and 67 receiving yards on two catches.

    Scott Dickson landed not one, but two punts on the one-yard line today. Dickson sent three punts on the day for 129-yards while averaging 43-yards a punt and two inside the 20.

    Garret Hoffman led The Coo with seven tackles on the day followed by Matt Goehring and Beau Giblin with four. Goehring secured the win for USF with an interception at 0:40 left to play.

    Brady Crawford and Isaiah Ward each recorded a sack against the Marauders today for a total loss of 4-yards. Giblin, Crawford and Ward led The Coo with three tackles for a loss of 5-yards on the day.

    UP NEXT

    Sioux Falls (3-0, 2-0 NSIC) will host (RV) Bemidji State (2-1, 1-1 NSIC) next Saturday, September 21 at Bob Young Field. Kickoff is slated for 1pm with gates opening at 12pm.
