    Northwest Missouri State soccer edges Augie

    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AUGUSTANA) — The Augustana soccer team (1-2-1) dropped a Wednesday night match to Northwest Missouri State (2-1-3) by a score of 1-0 on Morstad Field. The Bearcats scored in the 70th minute off a free kick to record the win.

    Sierra Barkus led the Vikings in shots on goal with three. Delaney Kost, Macie Haggerty, Ally Hamski and Makenzie Nelson recorded one shot on goal. Augustana edged out the Bearcats in shots 15-12.

    Aaliyah Matthews faced 12 shots throughout the match and made one save.

    20 Vikings touched the pitch in Wednesday’s affair. Ashlyn Kelliher led the team with 90 minutes of action.

    Match Highlights
    SHOT (NWMSU) 8′ – After a misplayed attempt by Augustana, Ashton Dain found a scoring opportunity from just outside the box but missed the net high.

    SHOT (AU) 10′ – Barkus recorded the first shot on goal with a powerful shot from inside the box. Lily Ellis laid out for the save to keep the game tied.

    SHOT (AU) 21′ – Barkus fired just high of the net for her second shot of the game in the 21st minute from outside the box.

    SHOT (AU) 28′ – Barkus tallied her second shot on goal in the 28th minute but was saved by Ellis’s outstretched arm.

    SHOT (AU) 33′ – NWMSU stopped a powerful shot from Nelson headed for the goal.

    DEFENSE (AU) 35′ – Kelliher chased down a Bearcat forward to break up a scoring chance for NWMSU.

    SHOT (AU) 44′ – Morgan Mancuso tallied two shots in the final minutes of play in the first half.

    SHOTS (AU) 49′ – Augustana totaled two shots on goal off the boots of Barkus and Kost to open the second half.

    GOAL (NWMSU) 70′ – The Bearcats were awarded a free kick from outside the box as Emily Yakle lined up the shot and scored.

    SHOT (AU) 88′ – Augustana made a strong push in the final minutes of the match and controlled the pace of play. Haggerty fired in a shot from inside the box but was denied.

    Augustana hits the road to open up conference play against Winona State and Minnesota State. Friday’s match against the Warriors is slated for 5 p.m. and Sunday’s match against the Mavericks will kickoff at 1 p.m.
