CLEVELAND, OHIO (KELO) — Andres Gimenez singled in Jose Ramirez to walk-off the Twins for the second straight game in extra innings and Cleveland clinched a spot in the playoffs.

The single handed the Guardians a 3-2 win.

Minnesota’s offense was woeful in the loss. They mustered just three hits all afternoon, including a two RBI double from Manuel Margot in the fifth inning.

The Twins led 2-1 at that point.

However, Minnesota wouldn’t collect a single hit the remainder of the game.

Cleveland tied the game in the sixth and then the bullpens forced extra innings.

Matt Wallner became the first Twin to reach since the fifth inning with a hit by pitch. Manuel Margot worked a walk and the Twins had the bases loaded with an out.

However, a pair of fly outs from Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton ended the threat with no run support.

Caleb Thielbar attempted to keep the Twins in it, but a one out single from Gimenez scored Ramirez to end the game.

The victory made the magic number zero for Cleveland who is now playoff bound.

    THE RECORD

Minnesota is now 80-73 on the year. That drops them into a tie with the Tigers, though the Twins hold the tiebreaker.

    UP NEXT

The Twins now head to Fenway Park to play a three game series with the Red Sox.

Probable starters are David Festa (5.07 ERA) for the Twins and Richard Fitts (0.00 ERA) for the Red Sox. Fitts has pitched 10.2 innings as a call up for the Red Sox in September and allowed just two unearned runs.
