BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — The SDSU football team earned their first shutout win of the season 41-0 at Southeastern Louisiana Saturday.

It’s the teams fourth shutout under coach Jimmy Rogers.

The Jacks primarily moved the sticks with their run game, accumlating 341 rushing yards to their total 417. One of their major contributors in holding the Lions outside of the defense was running back Kirby Vorhees, the redshirt freshman ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns. After collecting his first TD as a Jackrabbit he was unstoppable, and he says a stellar performance like that stems from those around him.

“Coach Rouse puts me in a lot of positions in practice to make plays and it almost came second nature today. I could just thank my O-line, my O-line does so much for me to help me break those tackles and get to the space where I can make those plays, ” SDSU running back, Kirby Vorhees said.

The Jacks defense was clicking through to their last line of defense, holding the Lions to less than 100 yards of offense in each half. The Jackrabbits got first-half interceptions from Colby Huerter and Steven Arrell while racking up four sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Huerter reflects on the team’s defensive showcase.

“Huge win, we preached having fun and I think when we have fun, we could just play and just fly around. Don’t worry about the mistakes, we’ll fix them on Monday and it was just fun, it was good and we weren’t really paying attention to the score. So it’s pretty cool knowing that it’s zero, ” SDSU safety Colby Huerter said.

The Jacks begin conference play on the road against Northern Iowa Saturday October 5th.
