VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — USD saw their third game of the season cancelled, following Portland State’s outbreak of whooping cough. The Yotes would then return to Vermillion, where they got right back in the win column.

The Coyotes started Saturday’s game with a bang, as Keyondray Jones-Logan returned the opening kick-off 99 yards for a touchdown.

USD added a touchdown run later in the first, building a 14 point lead and they never looked back, on their way to a dominant 42-3 blowout.

The Yote defense allowed just 211 yards to Drake, while the offense posted 411 yards of total offense.

“We talked about getting off to a good start and an opening kick-off return, there’s not much of a better way to start a football game than that. From there on, I thought our defense dominated the game,” USD head coach Bob Nielson said.

USD stays in Vermillion this week. They host #17 Southern Illinois on Saturday at 1 p.m.
