MINNEAPOLIS, MN (KELO) — Minnesota’s offensive struggles continued Tuesday as a lack luster performance led to a 4-1 loss to Miami and another game to overcome in the hunt for the AL Wild Card.

The Twins entered the day a game back of Detroit and the Royals. Both teams won, placing pressure on the Twins to win, or fall behind two games with just five to play.

Miami has the worst record in the National League, but that didn’t stop them from starting the day on the right foot.

Jonah Bride hit a towering 418 foot homerun off Bailey Ober in the second inning.

Nick Fortes singled in a run and Xavier Edwards doubled in two, leading to a four run second inning and an early deficit.

However, Ober and the bullpen combination of Scott Blewett, Caleb Thielbar, Michael Tonkin and Cole Irvin didn’t allow another run, giving the offense eight innings to close the gap.

And they did in the third, thanks to an RBI single from Royce Lewis, scoring Byron Buxton.

The Twins threatened several times in the six innings after, but they left ten runners on base, never scoring again on their way to a 4-1 loss.

    THE RECORD

Minnesota is now 81-76, having suffered their third straight loss and eighth in their last 11 contests.

The Twins are now two games back of the Tigers and Royals, with just five games left to play.

    NEXT UP

Minnesota continues their series with the Marlins on Wednesday. It’s a 6:40 p.m. first pitch in Minneapolis.

Probable starters are Edward Cabrera (5.12 ERA) for the Marlins and Simeon Woods Richardson (4.00 ERA) for the Twins.
